Pilates Level 1 - Essential Matwork

The Level 1 Matwork Module will prepare you to teach Matwork classes in a group or individual setting. You will learn the anatomy and kinesiology of the core, the Classic and Modern Pilates Principles, how to safely modify exercises for your students, how to structure a mat class and the choreography for over 100 mat exercises. A manual detailing the content of this course is included.
Apprenticeship Pilates has traditionally been taught to instructors on a mentor-apprentice basis. This is where the student learns not only by taking a specially constructed course, but also by observing and assisting an already-certified instructor. All worthwhile modern courses require an apprenticeship from their students. We require a 20-hour apprenticeship to complete the Matwork Module. Completion of the coursework and the apprenticeship will result in the student being awarded a diploma of graduation from Pacific Movement Center.
Pre-requisite There is a pre-requisite of 20 hours of experience in the Pilates method. This can be fulfilled by attending mat classes, equipment classes or private sessions taught by a certified instructor. This requirement is in place in order to ensure we can concentrate on the issues of how to teach Pilates, and not primarily on executing the exercises.
